The Roan Massif is one of the most beautiful and spectacular sections of the Appalachian Trail, climbing through the clouds to over 6,000 feet, passing through the largest stand of Catawba rhododendron in the world, crossing the great bald of Hump Mountain, and looking down on mountain ridges stretching as far as the eye can see in every direction.
Now add to its natural beauty the warmth and hospitality of the little town of Roan Mountain, the Appalachian Trail’s 41st Appalachian Trail Community.
Designation as an AT Community by the Appalachian Trail Conservancy recognizes the town as a welcoming haven providing food, shelter, medical care and other services for hikers. It also recognizes the efforts of the county’s and town’s leaders, who dedicate their time and effort to the promotion and preservation of the AT and Carter County’s many natural resources.
Hikers, we’d love to have you pay us a visit – come on down for good food, a comfortable bed, hot showers, supplies, and a truly warm welcome.
We regret that ROAN MOUNTAIN APPALACHIAN TRAIL DAYS AKA Hikerpalooza 2020 has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 emergency, but we’ll see you in 2021. Trail Days is a weekend-long celebration bringing together the community and our honored guests, the AT hikers. Come on down to Roan Mountain Community Park for the best in local music, good food, good company and everything that makes Roan Mountain such a special, welcoming place. AT Days is held on the second weekend in May, with most activities in the community park.
